YaLa is delighted to announce that it will soon be opening the doors of the 1st online peace academy where lectures will be given exclusively by peace practitioners from around the world: the Arab-Israeli Peace Institute in Honor of Nelson Mandela.

YaLa is privileged to have among her lecturers, peacemakers from some of the most transformed post-conflict zones – South Africa, Rwanda, Ireland and the Balkans as well as from America and the Middle East. Some notable practitioners include Dennis Ross, Desmond Tutu, Abu Ala, Paul Rusesabagina, and many more.

The Institute will focus on transferring to the young generation their know-how and experiences on:

  • Peace Negotiations – peacemaking, negotiations, mediation, treaties and peacemaking processes, with a focus on practitioner experiences and the role of women and civil society.
  • Human Rights & Transitional Justice – human rights values and transitional justice, including symbolic and civil society-led approaches that address the legacies of conflict while re-building a shared community.
  • Reconciliation & Peacebuilding – grassroots peacebuilding efforts, such as those led by individuals who have lost loved ones in conflict yet have found a path to forgiveness and reconciliation with their former enemies.
  • Good Governance & Development – building the institutions that form the foundation of a stable and peaceful society and the economic development which sustains it.

Enrolled students will listen to one online lecture every 10 days and participate in online discussions about it with participants from around the Middle East & North Africa region and beyond. Students who successfully complete the final project on the theme of “Future Peace in the Middle East” will be entitled to a certificate of completion. The program will begin with a pilot phase (March 31-May 23, 2014), followed by the full program taking place from May 24th to December 15th 2014.

YaLa invites young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to become part of this fascinating learning experience to learn practical know-how about peace.
