Applications are now open for the 2026 UBA Foundation National Essay Competition. The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative, which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

1st Stage: Call for entries – 20 best essays to be selected
2nd Stage: Final physical test – 5 winners
WORTH
The first-place winner will receive a N15 million university grant, up from N10 million in 2025.
The other winners will receive:
- Second place: N10.5 million
- Third place: N7.5 million
- Fourth place: N5 million
- Fifth place: N3.5 million
ELIGIBILITY
- Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student.
- Complete the application form.
- Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed).
- Upload a recent passport photograph.
- Upload a scanned copy of a Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport.
