General functions.

The Programs Officer on Education will take the lead on education projects and provide support to the Programs Department on the Education and Girl-Child Literacy thematic focus and across the full range of projects in both planning and implementation. A successful candidate will identify and resolve diverse issues as they arise, which often requires interpretation of existing procedures and processes and independently determining the appropriate application. The job holder will work on projects in line with the guidelines and regulations of donors, outsource for donors through proposal writings, document proposals, and reports.

Main duties and responsibilities will be:

Program Planning

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Program Manager, and other team members to understand program goals and to meet expectations
  • Analyze trends and gaps in educational development, policies and emerging issues and recommend program strategies to meet needs
  • Take lead in preparing proposals, concept notes and reports as assigned
  • Design and ensure proper implementation of activities in project under education thematic area
  • Contribute to information-sharing and data management systems
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports, on time and with accurate data
  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibility as and when needed

Coordination

  • Actively participate in relevant working groups and contribute to interagency initiatives
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct
  • Takes notes of regular team’s meetings for the program office use. Work with other Program Assistants to coordinate work activities, meet deadlines, and provide support where needed

  • Excellent (Proposal, Report, Concept note) writing
  • Advocacy/Advancing a policy-oriented agenda
  • Experience in building strategic partnerships/alliance
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize within a multi-tasking environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills

ELIGIBILITY

  • A degree in education, social sciences or related field from any reputable school (a Master degree will be an added advantage)
  • Three years’ experience in program design and implementation, in a similar role, will be an added advantage
  • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects and stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in a team
  • Prior experience in an NGO is an added advantage
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the country and across the region on a regular basis
  • High degree of independence, creativity and commitment
  • Strong analytic and communication skills, ability to write clearly and succinctly under time pressure and to make well organized verbal presentations
  • Ability to work under high pressure of work
  • Have a passion for education and girl-child development
