Professional visual journalists from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia can participate in this course and receive a EUR2,000 grant to produce a high-quality multimedia story.

World Press Photo invites professional visual journalists from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia to apply for the Reporting Change Multimedia Course. In order to strengthen their storytelling skills, 10 selected participants will receive guidance from professional trainers and a grant to produce a high-quality multimedia story from the region. The multimedia productions will be promoted by World Press Photo within the framework of Reporting Change.

Who can apply:
Professional visual journalists (photographers and videographers)

  • With a minimum of 1 year experience working as a freelancer or on staff
  • Who are nationals or permanent residents working in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco or Tunisia
  • Who have the ambition to improve their storytelling skills
  • Who have access to high definition multimedia equipment
  • With a basic understanding of English and/or French

What you are applying for:
The course consists of three phases beginning with a five-day face-to-face introduction to multimedia storytelling with the aim of producing a story idea and work plan, followed by the production of this multimedia story while receiving online coaching from the trainers. The course will end with a five-day face-to-face workshop in which the produced multimedia stories are discussed and finalized. All courses will take place between January 2014 and April 2014.

The trainings will take place in a small group environment where you will get one-on-one coaching from experienced, acclaimed international professionals. You will also have the opportunity to network and exchange knowledge with the trainers as well as your fellow regional participants.

Each of the participants will receive a €2000 grant to further develop their skills and produce a high-quality multimedia story from the region. Last but not least, participation is free of cost. World Press Photo will cover all travel and lodging expenses.
