Despite the role the internet has played in the everyday lives of people around the world, there is still a large internet divide. According to InternetWorldStats, about 34% of the world has no access to the internet. In Africa, the figure rises to 57% and in Nigeria, 30% still have no internet access. This limits their ability to thrive in an internet-driven world. There are several inequalities in the world and the internet divide is a big one. There are about 2 billion people that are still cut from using the internet. In today’s world where the drive for participatory democracy, the internet inaccessibility means a sizable part of the population is cut off from capacity-building, youth activism, and local governance.
