The IPA honours and encourages innovative achievements that contribute toward developing new products, increasing efficiency or saving cost in Africa. The prize also promotes also among young African men and women the pursuit of science, technology and engineering careers as well as business opportunities with potential of contributing to sustainable development in Africa.

WORTH
- 1st Prize (the overall winner whose innovation demonstrates the best innovation with clear business potentials): $100,000 USD
- 2nd Prize (The innovator who best demonstrates a commercially-driven business innovation): $25,000 USD
- Special Prize for Social Impact (the innovation that demonstrates the greatest social impact): $25,000 USD
- Nominees: the top 10 nominees shall be invites for face-to-face interviews to assess in depth their innovation as potential winners for the IPA competition.
- AIF will provide a $5,000 USD voucher to each nominee to assist in moving the innovation to the next step.

- Africans in Diaspora can also enter if their innovations are significant to Africa
