YouthHubAfrica is one of Africa’s leading NGOs, providing platforms for young people to contribute to sustainable development and collaborate in creative and special ways. The Field Officer in Sokoto State will coordinate all the advocacy activities related to the Child Rights Act advocacy and the organisation’s programs around education and girl-child literacy. The officer will be able to work with the coalition, and stakeholders while also providing up to date information for the YouthHubAfrica office.

General functions.

The Field Officer’s primary function is to oversee the implementation, and monitoring of the Child Rights Advocacy Campaign, girls’ education, and literacy in Sokoto state, ensuring implementation schedules are met as per the detailed activity plan, and that adherence to systems for quality project implementation are strengthened. This will include helping to shape and direct the organisation’s work in championing girls’ education and the rights of children in  Sokoto State as well as engaging with stakeholders to achieve set objectives.

The ideal candidate will provide leadership across the full range of projects in planning, implementation, and documentation. He/she will identify and resolve diverse issues as they arise, which often requires interpretation of existing procedures and processes and independently determining the appropriate application.

Main duties and responsibilities will be: 

  1. Program Planning
    • Will report directly to the Program Officer Education and Girl Child Literacy while Working closely with the Executive Director, Program Manager, and other team members to understand program goals and to meet expectations
    • Support YouthHubAfrica programs to supervise and manage all activities  in Sokoto State and other adjoining Project sites.
    • Support team in preparing proposals, and concept notes 
    • Take lead in preparing reports as assigned. 
    • Coordinating on ground activities which includes training and capacity building, outreaches and media efforts.
    • Contribute to information-sharing and data management systems.
    • Compile monthly and quarterly reports, on time and with accurate data.
    • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibilities as and when needed.
  2. Stakeholders management
    • Work with existing stakeholders, identify other key stakeholders on areas of thematic importance 
    • Mobilise and organise for advocacies at the community level 
    • Identify and work with Influencers on basic education, Girls education, the child right and related policies as well as youth participation in governance and sustainable development. 
  3. Coordination
    • Actively participate in relevant working groups and contribute to interagency initiatives.
    • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct.
    • Take notes of regular team’s meetings for the program office use. Work with other Program Assistants to coordinate work activities, meet deadlines, and provide support where needed.
  4. Human Resources/Knowledge Management
    • Develop support strategies for staff and introduce principles of inclusion.
    • Develop and maintain an efficient filing system for the team, including assistance in processing calls for proposals as required and maintain a tracking system of responses to proposals.
  5. Financial Management
    • Develop work plans in line with financial pipelines.
    • Work with Finance and Logistics to plan and procure supplies within program budgets.
    • Ensure compliance with donor regulations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Work, International Development, Public Administration or other relevant fields of study.
  • Two years’ experience in program design and implementation, in a similar role, will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Hausa and English languages is a must.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects and stakeholder engagement.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the environment and people, including culture.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible to a changing environment, and to make decisions independently.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in a team.
