YouthHubAfrica is rolling out the Girls’ Voices Essay Competition, a part of the Girls’ Voices project which aims to challenge these gender norms by bringing into the spotlight issues that affect young girls between the ages of 15 and 22, as well as enhancing their knowledge and skills on laws and policies that protect and promote their interests. This writing competition will involve female secondary school students in both private and public schools across Nigeria.
Essay Topic: How Social Norms affect my World as a Girl.
WORTH
- The top 20 finalists will be invited to attend an all-expense-paid 2-day national girls conference in Abuja.
- The top finalists will also be involved in developing the Girls’ Chatter comprising a list of demands to address the challenges and proffer solutions to issues that affect young girls across Nigeria.
Guideline for Essay Entries:
- Essays must be independent and original, not more than 500 words;
- Essays must be written and typed in English using Times New Roman, font size 12 with single line spacing;
- Participants grant the organisers the right to use their details and entries for non-commercial purposes;
- All entries must be submitted on or before September 17 2021;
- Please note that entries that do not match the above specifics will be automatically disqualified.
ELIGIBILITY
- This Competition is open to all female students in SS1-SS3 between the ages of 15-22.
Timeline:
- Submission Deadline – September 17, 2021
- Evaluation and shortlisting of entries ends – September 20, 2021
- Selection and Notification of finalists – September 27, 2021
- National Girls Summit – October 11-12, 2021
Note: Evaluation and shortlisting will be done on a rolling basis.
