Code for Africa is kickstarting a three-year $4.7 million initiative to turbocharge data journalism across Africa.
The CfAfrica initiative, in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), is designed to help the media reinvent itself for the digital age. They are targeting the media, because it remains the most important civic watchdog in Africa.
The focus is on using #OpenData and #CivicTech tools to reinvent the way that newsrooms report the news … plus the ways that audiences engage with the media.
The new data journalism initiative will initially focus on three ‘hub’ countries: Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa. A fourth country will be announced in early 2016.
They are looking for civic technologists, data analysts, UI/UX designers, and other experts to help drive the initiative locally.
