YouthHubAfrica is implementing the EU/UN Spotlight Initiative program with activities focusing on the issues of Gender and Sexual Based Violence, Harmful practices and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.

In Nigeria, it is believed that GBV and Reproductive health issues are fueled by ignorance and adverse cultural or religious beliefs and practices. More so, domestically, GBV is used interchangeably with Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) being that women and girls are at a greater disadvantage when it comes to issues surrounding GBV. As such, it is believed that one in three women experience either physical or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Empirical evidence in Nigeria mirrors that 30 percents of girls and women aged between 15 and 49 have reported having experienced sexual abuse. This brings to mind the unreported sexual and gender-based violence. Furthermore, nearly 3 in 10 Nigerian women have experienced physical violence by age 15 and these forms of violence are predominantly caused by men (NDHS 2013). Specifically, women within the age range of 15 to 35 are believed to be the age group with the highest risk to reproductive health issues in Nigeria. With an upsurge of these issues within the youth population, it becomes imperative that measures are taken to curb them.

The aim of this project is to increase awareness on the effect of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the importance of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) among young people in the 6 spotlight states and during the Orange day campaign 2021
