he Full Frame Documentary Film Festival exhibits nearly 100 documentary films in a variety of programs. By completing the online application, you will be submitting to NEW DOCS, the festival’s competitive program. In 2013, 52 films were chosen for NEW DOCS from 1200 entries. NEW DOCS films are eligible for a number of awards in various categories. The 2013 festival offered 9 awards, with prizes totaling nearly $50,000 in cash and services.
Full Frame has also been selected as an Academy-Award® qualifying festival in the Documentary Short Subject category and a PGA qualifying festival in the Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Picture category.
10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR FILM
- ELIGIBLITY: Short and Feature documentary films completed after January 1, 2012 are eligible for Full Frame 2014.
- APPLICATION: An online Withoutabox application must be completed prior to mailing DVD screeners.
- PREVIEW SCREENERS: Full Frame only accepts NTSC and PAL DVD screeners during the submission process. The festival does not accept online viewing links.
- RESUBMITTING: Full Frame does not have a rule against resubmitting, but only encourages filmmakers to resubmit if substantial changes have been made.
- PREMIERES: Though Full Frame does not have a premiere requirement, programmers do take previous screenings into consideration when making final decisions, especially when films have already screened in North Carolina.
- ROUGH CUTS: Filmmakers are encouraged to submit the most complete version of their film possible. Email submissions@fullframefest.org before submitting a rough cut.
- UPDATED CUTS: Full Frame cannot guarantee that updated cuts will be viewed. The original screeners submitted will be considered by the programmers.
- IN CONSIDERATION: Films will be marked “In Consideration” in Withoutabox when preview screeners are received. Please allow one to two weeks for your film to be marked as received. International films may take longer if sent via regular mail.
- NOTIFICATION: Notifications regarding acceptance will be sent out via email to the Primary Contact on the application no later than March 1, 2014. ONLY the Primary Contact will receive the email, so please double check that all contact information is correct and notify submissions@fullframefest.org if contact details change.
- FESTIVAL EXHIBITION: Accepted films must be able to screen at the festival in one of the following formats: 35mm, BetaSP, Digibeta, or HDCAM. Full Frame provides filmmakers screening in the NEW DOCS program with lodging and pass credentials. Airfare is not included.
