Climate change is now recognized to have a significant impact on disaster management efforts and pose a significant threat to the efforts to meet the growing needs of the most vulnerable populations of any country. The demands of disaster risk management are such that concise, clear, and reliable information is crucial to a country’s survival. Changes in both the climate system and socioeconomic processes -including adaptation and mitigation actions- are drivers of hazards, exposure, and vulnerability (IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, 2014).

Increased flooding experienced in Nigeria during the last decade due to the rise in the sea level has become a major issue and deterrent to the economic growth of the country. Agriculture, Trade, Infrastructure and Health have all been at high risk as farms, livestock, homes, and people’s livelihoods are now at stake. It has also been estimated that a 1-meter rise in sea level could cause 75% of the land in the Niger Delta to be lost.

There has now become a need for the Nigerian Government and its people to join forces and fight against Climate Change. All parties need to work together to create awareness of this pressing issue for the survival of the country and the livelihood of its citizen.
