The Programs Officer on Education will take the lead on education projects and provide support to the Programs Department on the Education and Girl-Child Literacy thematic focus and across the full range of projects in both planning and implementation. A successful candidate will identify and resolve diverse issues as they arise, which often requires interpretation of existing procedures and processes and independently determining the appropriate application. The job holder will work on projects in line with the guidelines and regulations of donors and outsource for donors through proposal writings, document proposals, and reports.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Program Manager, and other team members to understand program goals and to meet expectations.
  • Initiate and lead research activities around the thematic area
  • Research opportunities for funding for the organization
  • Take the lead in Education and Girls’ Child Literacy Programs and lead the design of new initiatives and projects, including preparing proposals, concept notes, and reports as assigned.
  • Lead activities implementation on proposed and approved ideas
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on time and with accurate data
  • Work with the program manager to train staff to become leaders in promoting education, basic education, girls’ education, and learning
  • Work with other Program Staff to coordinate work activities, meet deadlines, and provide support where needed.
  • Participate in relevant working groups, local, national, and continental, and contribute to interagency initiatives
  • Contribute to the organisation’s positive image and overall credibility, notably by applying the organisation’s Code of Conduct
  • Map, engage, and manage critical Stakeholders within the education sector, nationally and internationally.
  • Maintain flexibility to take on added responsibilities as and when needed.

ELIGIBILITY

  • A degree in education, social sciences, or a related field from any reputable school (a Master’s degree will be an added advantage)
  • Three years of experience in program design and implementation in a similar role will be an added advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilisation projects and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven knowledge and experience in leading advocacy efforts.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in stakeholder management, which include mapping and engagement.
  • High level computer literacy
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work in a team.
  • Prior experience in an NGO is an added advantage
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the country and across the region on a regular basis
  • A high degree of independence, creativity, and commitment.
  • Strong analytic and communication skills, ability to write clearly and succinctly under time pressure and to make well-organized verbal presentations
  • Ability to work under high-pressure of work
  • Have a passion for education and girl-child development
