The Finance Officer provides support to the Account Department. A successful candidate will identify and resolve diverse issues as they arise, often requiring interpreting existing procedures and processes and independently determining the appropriate application. The job holder will work on projects in accordance with donors’ guidelines and regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Manage project finances as would be assigned.
  • Participate in the improvement of the accounting system and internal control.
  • Responsible for entering financial information on QuickBooks and any other account software in use, as well as maintaining all financial records for projects and for the organization.
  • Prepare and analyze budgets for internal use and donor-funded projects.
  • Develop monthly financial reports and submit them to the head of accounts and executive director for review.
  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements every month for review by the Finance Lead in a timely.
  • Provide financial inputs for proposal development and project management.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update payroll information while noting tax, pension, loan, and other deductions and exemptions.
  • Ensure that all statutory deductions, such as Withholding Tax (WHT) are promptly remitted to the relevant statutory authority monthly.
  • Support the preparation of monthly and end-of-project financial reports.
  • Maintaining a sound database of accounting and finance records as well as a comprehensive manual filing system of records.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Knowledge of Donor regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate reports.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance.
  • Understanding of financial statements and budgeting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Prior experience in account management or a similar role, preferably 2-4 years
    experience.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting financial software preferably Quick Books, and MS Office
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Professional certification such as ACCA or ICAN is a plus
