Professor Peter Anyang Nyongo has been a member of Kenya’s National Assembly since 1992 and has just been elected Senator. He played a major part in the campaign to adopt a more democratic Constitution by referendum in 2010. He is a renowned professor of political science who has taught in universities in Kenya, Mexico and Ethiopia. His publications include the “Context of Privatisation in Kenya,” “NEPAD: A New Path?” and “The Challenge of National Leadership and Democratic Changes in Kenya.” He is the Secretary General of Orange Democratic Movement and has held cabinet posts as Minister of Planning and National Development (2002 -2005) and Minister of Medical Services (2007 -2012). His lecture will address not only African unity and the contributions of Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem to Pan Africanism but also the recently concluded Kenyan elections.
