In recognition of the fundamental interlinkages between the 2030 Agenda and Sustaining Peace, the President of the General Assembly will convene a High-level Dialogue entitled “Building Sustainable Peace for All: Synergies between the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustaining Peace Agenda” on 24 January 2017 at UN Headquarters in New York, with the participation of the President of the Security Council, the President of the Economic and Social Council, and the Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission.
At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) is facilitating a process to identify two civil society speakers, and other civil society attendees wishing to be considered as observers for this event.
WORTH
- Travel funding will be available for the two selected speakers.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
- Be authorized officially by their organization or network to speak on behalf of the organization or institution;
- Have expertise and be working on the linkages between peace and security, and sustainable development;
- Have demonstrated ability to engage constructively with a variety of stakeholders;
- Be available to be in New York on 24 January 2017 and for travel if necessary; and
- Have a visa for travel to New York, or be able to obtain one within 2 weeks (Please check with the US Embassy or Consulate in your country. Selected speakers will receive an invitation letter to support a visa application, but will be responsible for obtaining the visa and for any costs associated with obtaining the visa.)
- For a speaking role, be a compelling speaker.
