Calling all climate crusaders!

Antarctica is vast. Twice the size of Australia, it is an island continent, east of the sun, west of the moon and south of everything else. The continent holds 90% of the world’s ice and 70% of the world’s fresh water. It is the highest, driest, coldest and windiest continent on earth. Human activities in Antarctica are governed by an international agreement known as the Antarctic Treaty System, established in 1959. This unique international agreement ensures that Antarctica is used for peaceful purposes only and that the environment is protected. Currently there is a moratorium in place that bans drilling or mining in Antarctica called the Environmental Protocol, established in 1991. This document can be reviewed after the 50-year anniversary in 2041.

The Antarctic Youth Ambassador Programme (AYAP) will select 10 young people from around the world to attend the International Antarctic Expedition (IAE) from 28 February to 14 March 2013. The mission for the IAE Expeditions is to engage and inspire the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, be sustainable, and know that now is the time for action in policy development, sustainable business generation through the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability.

AYAP will be conducted under the larger banner of the 2041 IAE 2013 and will be led by renowned polar explorer Robert Swan O.B.E., the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles and his experienced team at 2041. For more information log on towww.2041.com or download the brochure and application form (attached). As a part of the youth program, we will use the leadership tools developed on IAE 2013 to create a community project to be implemented upon your return.

We would like to invite you to join AYAP as one of our ten selected participants and become a valuable member to the 2041 expedition, IAE 2013. For more details and application process, please see below.
