The 1st Africa-Europe Youth Summit and its process of consultation, facilitated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in 2007, was a crucial moment in strengthen the ties between young people in Africa and Europe, in order to increase their knowledge about the European Union and the African Union and their policies related to the living conditions of young people on the two continents.

As a follow-up of the 1st Africa-Europe Youth Summit in 2007, the North-South Centre has been developing and implementing a programme in partnership with key governmental and non-governmental actors in Africa and Europe, including the European Youth Forum and the Pan-African Youth Union, the African Union and the European Union.

In November 2008, the North-South Centre and the European Commission (EuropeAid – DG AIDCO) signed a Joint Management Agreement for a period of three years (2009-2011) that aims to strengthen global education in the new Member States of the European Union and support Africa-Europe youth co-operation. This lead to the addition of a Euro-African dimension in 2009 and to the existing CoE/EU youth partnership which is managed by the North-South Centre.

For the 3rd Africa Europe Youth Leaders Summit that will be held on March 31-April 1 in Brussels, Belgium, we want to give recognition and acknowledgement of the work done by youth in the cooperation between Africa and Europe. Three projects implemented from December 2010 to February 2014 based on priorities of Africa-Europe Youth Dimension will be presented and will receive an Award during the Youth Summit at the Gala diner gathering Youth Leaders, Ambassadors and Business personalities of both continents.
