The Testimonial Archive Project (TAP) seeks Hausa and Kanuri-speaking volunteers to assist in the interviewing of survivors of Islamist violence in the region, as well as in helping to translate three to four minute interviews sent in from TAP contacts in Borno and Yobe states. TAP is an online archive detailing the human cost of the violence in the volatile north-eastern Nigerian states of Yobe and Borno from a personal perspective of individual citizens living in these areas. The purpose of this project is to help re-focus the conversation on ongoing violence on the human cost of the violence to help sensitize Nigerians and other interested observers, and to help boost activism for the benefit of Nigerians living in the region. All testimonies on TAP are from people who live in or are from the violence affected states in northeast Nigeria, and are brought forward from reputable organizations based in the region to ensure their veracity. Here is a bit more on our editorial guidelines:
- TAP does not have to use every audio that it collects.
- Only good quality recordings will be used for the project.
- Audio from the interviews uploaded to the site may be edited. to ensure minimal repetition and that each testimony is no more than 5 minutes.
- TAP will use content that targets religious or ethnic groups, as long as it does not target at any individual. In other words, we will use a testimony that says “Muslims are causing the violence” but not one that says “Hauwa/Mohammed/Abdul is causing the violence”
