COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The course aims to provide policy makers and development and human rights practitioners with skills to support their work with marginalised communities. The specific objective is to create a cohort of policy makers and senior leaders within international, regional and national non-governmental organisations, policy institutes and government agencies, who are equipped with a theoretical framework and practical tools to support small and large-scale interventions to address social exclusion

COURSE DATES AND DURATION

The course will be held in Lusaka, Zambia from the 17 – 21 September 2012. Participants must arrive by the 16th of September, and cannot leave before the course ends on the 21st at 5 pm.

CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.

COST AND SPONSORSHIPS

1. Economy travel to and from Lusaka, Zambia.

2. Airport transfers to the training venue.

3. Full workshop costs, including all reading material, Bed and Breakfast over the 6 days, teas and lunch on workshop days.

4. Participants are expected to (either with support from their organisations/selves or by fundraising):
• Allow for a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) of USD 30.00 per day to cover evening meals and other incidentals;
• Take out adequate personal and health insurance as the organisers cannot take liabilities in this regard.

5. Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday, 16 September 2012.

6. Accommodate a maximum of 10 self-sponsored participants to the course at a cost of US$ 1 500.00 per person, excluding all travel.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Prospective participants are expected to meet the following criteria:
1) Possess an undergraduate degree;
2) At least 5 years work experience in a civil society, or public sectors;
3) Currently be employed in an area where public policy advocacy is important;
4) Middle management ranking or higher;
5) English proficiency (as the course will be delivered in English);
6) Be a national from any of the 10 countries in which OSISA is active (Angola, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia or Zimbabwe
