Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on introducing students to open source software development. Students work on a 3 month programming project with an open source organization during their break from university.

Worth
- Successful student contributors are given a 5,500 USD stipend, enabling them to focus on their coding projects for three months
- Google summer of Code is completely online, which has allowed students and mentors from over 100 countries
Eligibility
- Must be at last 18 years old at time of registration
- Must be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited institution including (but not necessarily limited to) colleges, Universities, master’s program, PhD programs and undergraduate programs as of the GSoC Student Acceptance Date (April 22, 2016)
- Must be eligible to work in their country of residence during duration of program.
- Must be a resident of a country not currently embargoed by the United States
