The Population Council is an international, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that seeks to improve the well-being and reproductive health of current and future generations around the world and to help achieve a humane, equitable, and sustainable balance between people and resources. The Council works in three thematic areas – HIV and AIDS, poverty, gender, and youth, and reproductive health. Established in 1952, the Council is governed by an international board of trustees with headquarters in New York, USA. Population Council operates in Nigeria under a cooperation agreement with the Federal Government.
The Population Council Nigeria’s Young Graduate Internship in Youth Focused HIV/AIDS Programming is a one-year internship programme that engages university graduates aged 20-27 years, to serve as Youth Programme Assistants within the HIV/AIDS unit of the Population Council Abuja office. The programme seeks to develop young professionals who are interested in working in youth focused HIV-related programming in Nigeria by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and experience to effectively design, implement and manage HIV and other sexual and reproductive health (SRH) projects targeting adolescents, young people and other vulnerable populations.
Participants in the upcoming programme will have the opportunity to work at Population Council Nigeria from July 2014 – July 2015.
REQUIREMENTS:
Eligible applicants should:

  •  Be Nigerian citizens between 20-27 years old;
  • Have obtained a minimum of a university degree or degree equivalent
  • Have completed NYSC service
  • Have prior experience volunteering or working on HIV/SRH projects focused on adolescents and young people and other vulnerable populations.
  • Must be resident in the FCT
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • Demonstrate creativity and ability to use initiative
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral English communication skills.
  • Be committed to work full time from July 2014- July 2015
