Princeton University is pleased to announce the call for applications to the Fung Global Fellows Program at the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS). The program will select early-career scholars from around the world to be in residence at Princeton for an academic year and to engage in research and discussion around a common theme. The number of candidates hired at this rank will depend on the qualifications of the overall applicant pools. The fellowships will be awarded to scholars employed outside the United States who have a faculty appointment, a professional research appointment, or are an established independent scholar. They will also be expected to return to their positions at the conclusion of the fellowship. Lastly, they must have demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and unusual intellectual promise. Early-career scholars will be appointed at the rank of Visiting Research Scholar.
WORTH
- Within the limits of its resources, it is the intent of the Program to provide a salary for Early Career and Senior Fellows that equal the normal salary paid to a Fellow at his or her home institution . In cases where the Fellow’s base salary scale at their home institution is significantly below the norm, salaries may be adjusted upward to take this into account.
- Fellows will be eligible for (health) insurance through the Princeton University benefits plan.
- Fellows will receive research funds.
- If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, Fellows are given office space, computer access in a suite dedicated to the Program, as well as access to the Firestone Library.
- If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, the Program will pay transportation costs for each Fellow, and his or her spouse or domestic partner and for their child/children, with the following limitations: It will pay for the most economical means of transportation for one roundtrip for the Fellow, spouse, partner and children from and to his or her home institution. Travel funds for spouse, partner and children are restricted to persons accompanying a Fellow for a substantial period of time for at least two months. These funds are not intended for dependents taking brief holidays in the United States.
- If completing a physical fellowship at Princeton, the Program will pay for the shipment of books and papers that are necessary for the continuation of research, but not for the shipment of household goods. It should not normally be necessary to bring many books.
ELIGIBILITY
- Early-career scholars will be appointed at the rank of Visiting Research Scholar. Eligible are scholars who received their Ph.D. or equivalent within 10 years of the proposed start date of the fellowship: for the 2022-23 program that is no earlier than September 1, 2012. No exceptions will be made.
- Early-career applicants must hold a faculty appointment, a professional research appointment, or be established independent scholars outside the United States at the time of application, to which they are expected to return at the conclusion of the fellowship.
- Candidates who have already demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and exhibit unusual intellectual promise but are still at the beginning of their careers. Criteria for the fellowship include the strength of the candidate’s research projects, the relationship of those projects to the program’s theme, the candidate’s previous scholarly work, the candidate’s ability to contribute to the intellectual life and intellectual exchange of the program, and the candidate’s work experience outside the United States.
- All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
- If COVID-related health and travel laws and University policy prevent a phyisical residency at Princeton, Fellows will remain in their home country and participate in the program remotely. If restrictions are lifted, then Fellows would be required to be in residence in Princeton or the local vicinity, or demonstrate to the program’s satisfaction the ability to be on campus on a daily basis and on short notice in order to fulfill responsibilities relating to in-person participation, office hours, and the like.
