The West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) is organising the second Early Career Personal Development Course at the University of Ghana from January 14-17, 2020. The four-day course is open to early-career scientists (1-3 years post-PhD) conducting active research in any West African institution.

This intensive course designed for Post-Doctoral Fellows, Research Fellows and Early Career Lecturers in Biomedical Sciences and related academic disciplines, aims to provide an overview of many of the areas that influence the professional development of young investigators, including personal development, educational knowledge, science management, research group leadership, mentoring, approaches to building a career, transferable and specific skills such as grant writing and presentations.

The course will be led by Course Director, Professor Keith Gull (University of Oxford), together with WACCBIP Faculty and collaborators from Cornell Medical School, Oxford Brookes University, and other leading institutions.

Limited places are available on the course. Interested persons should send applications in PDF to applications@waccbip.org by 5.00pm GMT on December 2nd 2019. Successful applicants will be notified soon after this date. Applications must include:

  1.  a short CV (max one page) which includes a description of your current position and the name of your current supervisor or Head of Department who has agreed to your attendance if selected.
  2. A short personal statement (max 200 words) explaining how you hope to benefit from this course and why it is appropriate for you.
