The Elevating Young Nigerian Voices initiative is a bold call to action to empower young people in Nigeria to become active drivers of change in the areas of gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Recognising the growing need for inclusive policy development and youth-centered solutions, this initiative aims to strengthen youth networks and enhance their capacity to engage meaningfully in national, regional, and global decision-making spaces. Through targeted capacity-building in advocacy, alliance-building, and policy negotiations, young leaders will be supported to amplify their voices and contribute to shaping more equitable and responsive governance systems. The project will build on the efforts of existing coalitions, networks, and groups while connecting young leaders to broader movements and platforms addressing issues such as gender justice and social development.
This initiative will serve as a springboard for increased youth representation in national delegations to events like the African Union Positive Masculinity Summit, Youth Connect, and the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), as well as local convenings such as the DARE Conference. Over the next five years, the initiative seeks to institutionalise youth participation in decision-making bodies, strengthen intergenerational collaboration, and create evidence-based advocacy pathways that demonstrate the transformative power of youth leadership. By formalising youth engagement platforms and integrating youth voices into policy processes, the initiative envisions a future where young Nigerians are not just participants but co-creators of policies that affect their lives.
