ABOUT SOCIETY FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Society for Community Development (SCD) is a national non-governmental organisation founded in 1995 and currently working in over 100 communities in Nigeria especially the North West, North Central and South-South Nigeria with support from development partners. SCD’s strategic approach towards community development including poverty eradication is based on a long term experience in working with and learning from vulnerable and excluded people in Nigeria. Our mission is to promote sustainable development and empower the poor especially women and children in Nigeria through advocacy, capacity building and rights based approach with a vision of rural communities without poverty.Our program is in five Thematic Areas; Education, Agriculture, Women’s rights, Governance and Health/HIV/AIDS. SCD is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria with registration number CAC/IT/NO18916.It is also registered with Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and National Planning Commission as a local national NGO. OBJECTIVE OF THE AWARD
The Annual Community Development Awards organized by Society for Community Development in collaboration with ForwardAid seeks to highlight, recognise and celebrate individuals, local and international organisations, foundations, the private sector, Local, State and Federal Governments for tangible development which impact on people especially at the community level. In addition it is, to honour remarkable commitments and dedication of individuals, organizations, companies and government geared towards attracting and initiating change, empowering vulnerable communities, developing rural communities, tackling issues of poverty at the community level in Nigeria with sustainable interventions, infrastructures and development.
