The National Library of Nigeria was conceptualized in 2002. Construction of the building began in 2006 with a contract sum of 8.59 billion naira and a stipulated completion period of 22 months. Till date, this structure is yet to be completed and open for National use.
The lack of adequate allocation, failure to disburse allocated funds and non-allocation of funds for several years have been a major reason for the prolonged construction of this project.

It is obvious that the delay in completing the library is to the detriment of Nigeria with a population estimated to be about 200 million people. When this project is completed, it will ensure that Nigerians have access to a world-class Library and Library service which is currently non-existent, as well as a platform that ensures Nigerians have access to books.

Youthhubafrica together with Connected Development, Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA),  DEAN Initiative, Devatop Centre for Africa’s Development, Hipcity Hub, CSACEFA, Skills Outside School Foundation, Library and You, and Read2success urge patriotic citizens to demand the completion of the National Library by the Nigerian Government.
