Addressing his first ever press conference since resuming office about a month ago, Ahmad Alhendawi, Envoy of the UN Secretary General on youth committed to focus on education, civic engagement and unemployment.
Speaking via web link from Dakar, Senegal at the sidelines of the Global Consultation on education in the Post 2015 agenda, the UN envoy promised to work closely with the UN inter-Agency Network on Youth Development to deliver for youth globally.
He identified his priorities while in office to include:
1. Increasing access to young people for information and working with the UN
2. Advocacy for stronger youth agenda and youth participation
3. Connecting young people and all supporters to meaningful initiatives and campaigns
4. Harmonization of UN efforts to deliver as one and support young people
5. Building multi-stakeholder partnerships to support youth development in different fields
He further mentioned that he will promote a structured mechanism for youth participation that will allow young people access and work closely with the UN at National, Regional and International Levels.
