15 years after the Passage of the Child Rights Bill at the National Assembly, the Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-rufai on Thursday April 20 2018, signed the Kaduna Child Welfare and Protection Bill into law.
Rotimi Olawale, the executive director of Youthhubafrica says the signing into law of the child welfare and protection bill represents a major step in the right direction, as Kaduna state becomes the 26th state to domesticate the Child Rights bill in Nigeria.
Speaking further, he says the significance of the signing into law will be the impact on ensuring an institutional framework is available in Kaduna state to guarantee free basic education for children especially girls. The signing into law of the bill becomes a shining example to the remaining Northern states to show that where political will is strong, it is possible to mobilize the necessary stakeholders to rally around the passage of the Child Rights Bill into Law.
Importantly, Youthhubafrica calls for massive sensitization of citizens in Kaduna state on the key details of the child rights law as well as its full and rapid implementation by the Government.
Once again we acknowledge and commend the effort of his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State Mallam Nasir El-rufai and the Kaduna State House of Assembly as this is a major step towards providing a safe society for the Nigerian Child.
