YouthhubAfrica in conjunction with YISHDA organised a 3-day event from 27th April to 29th April to celebrate the 2015 International girl in ICT day.
About thirty (30) secondary school students from three (3) government schools in Abuja participated in this program.
Day 1 was an educational visit to Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) where the girls were encouraged to take up careers in engineering as it is no longer just “a man’s world”.
Day 2 featured an Intel easy steps training, facilitated by YouthhubAfrica, where the students had hands on computer appreciation course covering: Introduction to computers, Internet and Email, Introduction to Word Processing, and Spreadsheet.
Day 3 was the final day of the event which culminated with a career seminar at the World Bank office in Abuja, where the young girls were encouraged to take up a #STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) career and develop themselves at an early age to compete on a global level.
Emphasis was laid on the indispensability of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in this generation and beyond, and what opportunities abound if one is ICT friendly, competent and literate.
Youthhubafrica and YiSHDA appreciate specially, Microsoft Inc. for supporting the program with items for the students, and the World Bank for a space in their office for the 3rd day event.
