YouthHubAfrica is one of Africa’s leading NGOs, providing platforms for young people to contribute to sustainable development and collaborate in creative and special ways. In the last year of its 5 years strategic plan, the organization will enlist the contribution of young, innovative, and motivated leaders to support the existing team in achieving its objectives and that of its partners and funders.

General functions.

The Communication Officer is responsible for leading providing leadership and direction for strategic communication and branding for projects.

Primary duties and responsibilities will be: 

  • Develop, write and edit  communications materials, including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, and social media content under the supervision of the head of the department
  • Track analytics and create reports detailing successes and recommendations for  communications campaigns
  • Work with communications team members to conceptualize and implement communications strategies and campaigns
  • Ensure that all communications material aligns with the organization’s standards.
  • Maintaining calendars and appointments for the team and internal projects
  • Develop manage and maintain working relationships with journalists in multiple types of media outlets.
  • Prepare and manage the organization’s communication budget for projects.
  • Maintain a database of subscribers, media organizations, partners, and all stakeholders, as well as cordial relationships with them.

Qualifications

  • Degree In Mass Communication,  or other relevant fields of study (a Master’s degree will be an added advantage)
  • 3- 5 years of experience with similar projects and demonstrated experience in developing and managing knowledge management systems for education and advocacy 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, remain flexible to a changing work environment, and make decisions independently
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Demonstrate willingness to work in a team.
  • Experience in documentation, dissemination, public affairs, web services, or editorial work;
  • Proven ability to organize and share information effectively;
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, computer, and analytical skills;
  • Ability to interact with established networks of senior-level international health professionals, donors, universities, and other partners;
  • Experience managing complex, large-scale, donor-funded programs; 

Functional Skill Set: 

  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize within a multi-tasking environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Strong supervision skills to ensure activities, schedules, standards, and progress are reviewed and monitored;
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and motivating staff; a good understanding of performance and time management;
  • Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making.
